Launch Event at WD2019

Equal Measures 2030 (EM2030) presented the 2019 SDG Gender Index during a side event on 4 June at the Women Deliver 2019 conference (WD2019) in Vancouver, Canada. With speakers from both the private and public sector, and gender equality champions from many different parts of the world, the evening was truly inspirational.

‘Too often, women and girls are invisible, with no data or sexist data on the issues that disproportionately affect their lives […] Don’t let this report sit on a shelf. If we’re gathering this data, we should darn well use it,” said Melinda Gates, co-chair of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation (an EM2030 partner) during her keynote.

“We need a way to hold governments to account, and we need data with a soul,” highlighted Anne-Birgitte Albrectsen, CEO of Plan International (an EM2030 partner).

Exhibitor Booth

At WD2019, conference attendees were invited to join the EM2030 team and national and regional partners at our exhibitor booth where they could learn more about the new index findings through our interactive data visualizations powered by Tableau and quizzes.

EM2030 participated in various talks and discussions during the week of the index launch. For example, a plenary on “The Power of Data and Accountability”, where Alison Holder, Director of EM2030, highlighted data gaps that need to be addressed, including policy outcomes, women in conflict, women with disabilities, and many others.
